In 1998, he moved to Lancaster to work for FCI Electronics, where he stayed until he retired in 2011. “I spent about six months playing golf until I figured out what I was going to do next,” said Bewley, who is 70 and lives in Manheim Township. For Bewley, that next thing was becoming a volunteer mentor with SCORE Lancaster-Lebanon, where he could dispense business advice to entrepreneurs while getting to relive some of the camaraderies of the office.
“When I retired I didn’t necessarily miss the work, but I sure as the devil missed the people,” he said.
Now, as president of the local SCORE chapter, Bewley is squarely back in the business world as he helps guide entrepreneurs while overseeing the 67 volunteer mentors who offer free business advice. Those efforts have recently been getting some attention.
