SCORE Mentors partner with VITA for Tax Season Success! The United Way of Lancaster County’s VITA program has launched a new season of providing free tax-preparation services. Volunteer Income Tax Assistance is available to tax filers with less than $62,000 in household income. This year the VITA team at United Way is expecting to handle a record 10,000 tax returns, up from the 8,270 prepared in 2017. VITA will operate 300 locations, Monday through Saturday, staffed by nearly 200 certified volunteers.
The VITA team has been working with SCORE mentors, Kevin Saint-Cyr, and Tim Douglas on a variety of issues to add value to their program.
“At VITA we are in the business of recruiting and training volunteers to help a lot of clients. Positive culture and strong values drive our success, helping to recruit and retain a strong team of over 200 volunteers. Our SCORE mentors help us to define our culture, creating values and a new mission and vision that reflects our past success and future goals. As VITA goes through a period of change in the coming months and years, we can fall back on our mission, vision, and values to ensure that we are focused on what we do best and our winning strategies. We are excited to continue working with Tim and Kevin.”

Millersville University and SCORE Lancaster – Lebanon, through the Lancaster County Community Foundation’s BB&T Economic Growth Fund, are launching a pilot program to strengthen internship (for credit) and workforce traineeship (non‐credit) programs. As part of this program SCORE mentors began to with VITA to explicitly define and document their organizational culture.
“Kevin St. Cyr and I became involved with the VITA team through the Partnership for Progress initiative sponsored by Millersville University. SCORE mentors enjoy working with clients like Ezra Rothman and Steve O’Neill, because they are responsive, listen well and do their homework. As part of improving their internship program, we helped clarify their mission and values to 1) insure the best fit in the search for candidates and 2) facilitate orientation during the on-boarding process.”
