You will find a women's network for almost every major field in business – tech, medicine, communications, science, the arts. Women are drawn to this sort of support and collaboration in a busy world where making connections is not always easy. SCORE volunteer mentor Beverley Doody is the Chairperson of the newly-formed Professional Women's Network co-founded by the SCORE Lancaster-Lebanon and Susquehanna SCORE Chapters.
What is the mission of the SCORE Professional Women's Network?
Founded in late 2021 as a direct consequence of the additional challenge women, and particularly women of color, face in creating and running small businesses, the PWN was born to provide practical and emotional support to local female small business owners.
Women bring unique perspectives and face distinctive challenges when it comes to business. Our mission is to strengthen, diversify, and encourage our small business community. We holistically support women in small business.
Who was the SCORE PWN created to serve?
Women who are:
- looking to start their own business as a sole proprietor and women currently in business looking for more holistic, integrated support.
- seeking practical business information and networking opportunities, and those who desire professional development and emotional support.
- motivated, interested, creative, and looking to find empowerment, inspiration, and strength in a like-minded community.
- residing in the areas served by SCORE Lancaster-Lebanon and Susquehanna SCORE
What events have brought SCORE PWN members together so far?
At the end of October, we launched our inaugural events with an inspiring presentation and discussion led by an extraordinary speaker, Dr. Kathryn Sandoe, who spoke about the power of purpose, passion, and story.
Any new events on the horizon for SCORE PWN Members?
The PWN builds connections with other local women's groups who share our vision and purpose, including the Lancaster Chamber. We support the Women in Business Roundtable on Tuesday, February 1, from 8.00 to 9.30 a.m., held at the Lancaster Chamber building (115 E. King Street).
We are also planning our own SCORE PWN event, Leveraging LinkedIn to Showcase Your Brand. Studies show that there is a gender gap when it comes to self-promotion. We hope to learn practical tips during our learning event and to examine the reasons for that barrier in our small group networking sessions. This event is available on two dates to accommodate the schedules of today's busy women
