Meet new SCORE Lancaster-Lebanon mentor Bim Pickett. During his notable 32-year career with E.I. DuPont de Nemours & Co., he held numerous financial leadership positions at both the business unit and corporate levels as well as positions in South America and Europe. In the period between 2002 – 2004 Bim served as Chief Financial Officer of Invista, DuPont's $ 7 billion man-made fibers company which was sold to Koch Industries, Inc. in 2004. He has also served on the Board of Directors of several regional and international corporate joint ventures and a philanthropic foundation. For over ten years Bim has assisted as a Director of LIGHTWAVELOGIC, a publicly held company that develops innovative optical materials and devices for the Algorithmic Age.
Following retirement from DuPont, Bim channeled his business experience to not-for-profit organizations and served on the Boards of the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware and Operation Warm, which recently celebrated its 20th anniversary with the announcement that over 3 million children in communities across North America have received brand new Operation Warm coats.
Following his move to Willow Valley Communities Bim became aware of the work that SCORE Chapter 16 does in the area of providing volunteer mentors to the small business and nonprofit community.
“I had heard about retired business executives coaching new businesses, but I was not familiar with SCORE. The presentation was conducted by SCORE Mentors : Dan Cooper (who I know from a Navy group at Willow Valley), Chuck Sawicki, Jim Frey, and Henry Mauermeyer. It was an impressive presentation. Chuck and Jim included their clients in the presentation. I was impressed and indicated my interest to learn more. In less than a week, Dan had me meet Ed Iovino at the SCORE office and the rest just went forward from there.”
