Meet new SCORE Lancaster-Lebanon Mentor Margot Hoerner. Margot began her career in Sales and Marketing with Procter & Gamble. After 15 years, she realized that her true passion was really with the human element of the business. Margot loved the opportunity to train and develop others and empower the organization. She moved into Human Resources and spent the last 20 years of her career in a variety of HR roles. Her favorite role was serving as the North American HR Director for Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Hugo Boss and Lacoste fragrances and cosmetics (a division of P&G) based in New York City. She loved the pace and sizzle of the beauty business and working with a diverse organization of 2000 employees. Later Margot led the merger and acquisition of the P&G Fragrance/Cosmetic division to Coty, Inc. and retired last summer after a year with Coty.

“I feel blessed to have worked 35 years for a great company that embodied the purpose, values and principles that are important to me.”

Retirement is just another chapter opening for women like Margot Hoerner. Having lived in Lancaster for 26 years, Margot has had the opportunity to be involved in many organizations in Lancaster County. She wanted to get involved in an organization that could benefit from her personal and professional experiences and talents.

“I wanted to roll up my sleeves and be close to the action. I wanted to work directly with the clients who were beneficiaries from the organization (versus serving on a Board). I also wanted to work with an organization of people I did not know. I have enjoyed bringing diversity to the SCORE team and hope that we can continue to bring more women to the organization.”

Margot now serves as a SCORE Lancaster-Lebanon lead volunteer mentor on a number of accounts and already has had a significant impact on the clients she serves. In all of these relationships, Margot is eager to learn as well as lead.

“What I have enjoyed most is the variety of experiences as a Mentor. I have learned about the beauty salon industry, used bookstores, construction safety, home organization, and non-profits to name a few. I have connected with several Executive Directors who are looking for leadership coaching. Each have different goals and needs but a desire to partner with SCORE and appreciate the support. I have enjoyed the wisdom and advice from experienced SCORE mentors who have welcomed me to the organization and volunteered their knowledge and skills to equip me to be a better mentor.”
