Did you know that four out of the five finalists for the Great Social Enterprise Pitch were SCORE clients? These clients actively utilized SCORE as a free business mentoring resource in an effort to create and manage their business plans with confidence of success to their business.

The Great Social Enterprise Pitch is an annual idea incubator and business plan competition for concepts which use a business model that have a positive social impact. It’s amazing that this happens right here in Lancaster! Through crowdfunding beginning in August, five finalists are chosen to participate in the Live Pitch which occurs in October. Winners receive prize packages including cash and pro-bono services to make their business dream come alive! First through fourth place of this year’s Pitch were all SCORE clients:

First Place: SCORE Client “BRIDGE”
"Bridge is a platform to book cultural experiences with local refugees, connecting communities through shared events. In turn, this innovative project will give refugees a way to earn supplemental income by using their existing skills—both empowering the refugees through proficiencies they already possess as a way of bringing in income, as well as providing American-born individuals with cross-cultural experiences in their own backyard. These experiences may include sharing a meal, giving cooking instructions, offering music lessons, and much more."

Second Place: SCORE Client “MERAKI MOCHA”
Meraki Mocha will provide meaningful employment opportunities to individuals with an intellectual or developmental disability. Outstanding customer service and excellent products will aid in helping alleviate negative stigmas.

Lancaster Fellow Foodies delivers meals that are easy to prepare with minimal effort because there is no shopping, meal planning, prepping or cooking involved. You simply place your order and once the meals arrive, place in the crockpot in the morning and dinner is ready when you arrive home! Lancaster Fellow Foodies also hires Lancaster residents who would otherwise struggle to find meaningful work, and pay them thriving wages.

Languages Beyond Borders, a social enterprise initiative of CWS, will supply the Lancaster community and neighboring communities with trained, professional interpreters in the languages that are needed. CWS is a refugee resettlement agency that has access to native speakers of many LLDs, as well as more common languages.

Congratulations to these amazing finalists who utilize the services our SCORE mentors offer to local startup businesses. We cannot wait to see your ideas come to life!
